British Racecourses

The names of British racecourses are known to people even if they would not consider themselves horse racing enthusiats. A great many people have heard of horse racing courses such as Aintree, Wincanton and Kempton Park although they may not be quite sure where in the UK they might be located. There can be no doubt that horse racing in the UK is one of the country's most popular spectator sports.

Many people might be suprised to find out that there are around 60 racecourses licened for horse racing in Great Britain. This means that for the vast majority of people living in the UK they have a race course reasonably near to where they live.

British race courses can be divided into three distinct categories. Flat course where there are no hurdles and fences, National Hunt which does have fences or hurdles and a thirdly 'mixed'.
